Every year the global fashion industry is responsible for releasing 3.6 billion metric tonnes of carbon emissions into our atmosphere. This industry's overwhelming demand for resources, results in harm to us, the animals, the ocean and the planet. And all of this for what? Every year of the 100 billion garments manufactured, 92 million tonnes of clothing ultimately wind up in landfills, and 190,000 tonnes end up in our oceans.

At Closeout, we’re committed to creating better clothing without killing our planet in the process. We firmly believe that hemp plays a crucial role in this mission.

Carbon Footprint

Hemp removes lots of CO₂ from our atmosphere. An acre of hemp absorbs between 3 to 6 tonnes of CO₂ annually, compared to an acre of forest which captures 0.8 to 2.4 tonnes annually.

Resource Efficiency

Hemp requires 5% of the water cotton does during cultivation. It grows more densely than cotton or flax, meaning we get more fibre per acre, reducing the need for unnecessary agricultural land.

No Pesticides or Herbicides Required

Hemp can be grown without the use of nasty pesticides or herbicides. This is better for the environment and reduces negative impacts on the soil, ocean, animals and us.

Soil Health and Erosion Prevention

Hemp enhances soil health by detoxifying soil, aiding water penetration, and promoting a diverse microbiome.

Durability and Longevity

Hemp clothing is highly durable, which means it lasts longer. It has 3x the tensile strength of cotton. Meaning if looked after, hemp products will far outlive alternatives, reducing the need for rapid consumption.
